Register your business with the Kentucky Secretary of State and County Clerk
GENERAL FILING INFO
Once you have formed your Kentucky business with the Secretary of State, you are required by statute to register your business in any Kentucky county where your business resides (usually where your registered office is located). Our office is conveniently located in Richmond, Kentucky which is in Madison County. Our clients should file their formation documents with the Madison County Clerk’s Office.
Sole proprietorships should file a certificate of assumed name with the county clerk if the business is operated under a name other than their legal name. The certificate of assumed name costs $13 to file. All other entities should file the articles of incorporation or other formation documents with the county clerk in the county where the registered office is located. Filing articles costs $46.
In each county, you will have to file the documents with the county clerk’s office. It is a good idea to check office hours beforehand, they vary. Some offices don’t open until 8:30 and many close at 4:00 or 4:30.
